Low storage on your phone — how to free up space
A "storage full" warning can usually be fixed in a few minutes, without deleting anything important. Here's where to start.
What to check
Check what's taking up the most space
Settings > Storage (or a similar section) shows a breakdown of space used by photos, apps, files, and cache. It's the fastest way to see where you can save the most.
Make sure photos and videos are saved to the cloud
If your phone has photo backup turned on, you can safely delete the local copies that have already synced to a company or personal cloud.
Remove or "offload" apps you don't use
Many phones let you remove an app while keeping its data, so you can reinstall it later without losing your settings. Start with apps you haven't opened in months.
Clear cache and downloaded files
Browsers, messaging apps, and file apps often build up temporary files that can be safely cleared from within their own settings.
Why a phone slows down when storage runs low
The system needs some free space for temporary files and background updates. When storage is nearly full, a phone can slow down, freeze while saving photos, or refuse to install new apps.
